Mining components built to absorb punishment are frequently rubber or polyurethane bonded. Conveyor components, equipment mounts, vibration isolators, and rubber and polyurethane lined assemblies are replaced regularly, and manufacturers see the same material in parts that fail quality control before shipping. Because rubber and metal cannot be easily separated by hand at scale, these parts often end up landfilled or sold as contaminated scrap well below the value of their metal.
